Activities in Mal Pais and Surroundings:Surfing One of the biggest attractions of the Mal Pais area is the surf. The main surf beach Playa Carmen is a 10 min drive away from Casa Katino. From the house you can overlook all surf beaches of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Boat Tours The small, scenic fisherman's port of Mal Pais is also very close to Casa Katino. You can hire a panga (small fisher boat) for a fishing trip or just watch the abundant maritime life: you might see sea turtles, dolphins, manta rays or whales. Sunset trips are gorgeous and for fishing buffs a good catch is almost guaranteed. Sport Fishing Ambitious sports fishers might want to make a half or full day tour with a professional sport fishing boat to go for Marlin, Sailfish, Roosterfish, Giant Tuna, Yellow-finned Tuna. Tours are offered from Tambor, 40 km away from Mal Pais. Snorkeling Large tidepools in Mal Pais offer good snorkeling. Or make a tour to the Tortugas Islands from Montezuma. It's the best spot for snorkeling on the whole southern Nicoya Peninsula and the island looks like the perfect tropical island paradise.
