A diez minutos del mar, subiendo por un increible camino de montaña y selva, se encuentra Villa Katino. Un lugar alucinante desde donde se puede ver toda la costa hasta Santa Teresa. La casa es espectacular, pensada para el placer. Tiene todas las comodidades que se le puede pedir a una casa, los cuartos, los baños y la cocina son perfectos. Para los que quieran estar en un lugar metido en la selva, con todo el confort, con mucha privacidad, los mejores atardeceres que se puedan imaginar y cerca del mar, Villa Katino es el lugar indicado. Realmente superó nuestras expectativss y gracias a la buena onda de su dueño Tino y sus colaboradores Zeneida y Martin, hemos pasado unas vacaciones inolvidables con mi familia y amigos. Gracias TIno!!! I´ll be back!
Excelente lugar
La vista del lugar es simplemente increíble solo con eso la visita esta mas que justificada. La privacidad del lugar tambien es muy buena así como las habitaciones son amplias y cómodas. El servicio de limpieza muy bueno lo cual ayuda a relajarse simplemente y disfrutar de las vacaciones. En resumen volvería a visitar el lugar sin dudarlo.
Truly amazing place to stay in Mal Pais!
I recently stayed at the Villa Katino for 2 weeks in Feb. 2012 with my family. The place was truly amazing and we enjoyed every second there. The villa is even more beautiful in person than the pictures on the site portray. The owner, Tino, is very accommodating and the grounds keeper and house keeper are a delight. Every day the house was cleaned as though it was the first day. They even did laundry EVERY day! Perhaps the 2 best features of the house are the incredible pool and the mind blowing sunsets. I have seen many sunsets in Mal Pais/Santa Teresa but none compare to that of Villa Katino. The jacuzzi was also a treat as it does cool down quite a bit in the evening. The house stays extremely comfortable both day and night. The grounds are also very safe and secure. You will see all kinds of birds, butterflies, and lizards. We did a grueling 5 hour hike in the Cabo Blanco nature reserve and joked that we saw more interesting wildlife at the villa! I am a well seasoned traveller who has stayed in many places from hostel to villa all over the world. Villa Katino ranks at the top of the list and I can't wait to return! Perfection!
We stayed in Villa Katino one week with friends. One of the most amazing locations I've been to. Beautiful and well working luxury Villa, perfect view, good service from the staff, nice owner. Quite high up in the hills though and 4WD vehicle is recommended. Can warmly recommend!
Best Birthday ever!
What a great destination! If you are questioning where to visit/stay on your next trip, your search is over! Mal Pais is SO beautiful, and Villa Katino couldn’t have a better location in this charming little town. The ocean/jungle views from this house are absolutely stunning. The pictures do no justice!! The hospitality was equally as great. Tino, the owner of the house, was quick to help me with absolutely everything from reserving our ATVs, to booking the excursions we wanted. Villa Katino is centrally located to do everything (Zip line, Surf, ATV, Snorkel), yet is beautiful enough to make you want to do absolutely nothing. (lay by the pool and enjoy the amazing view!) I would recommend this house to anyone looking to go to Costa Rica! We had an absolute blast and 100% plan on returning VERY soon! ? Thanks for everything Tino! Can’t wait to come again!!!
Villa Katino is a must!!
Villa Katino is by far one of the most beautiful and amazing places i have ever stayed! The sunsets are unreal, the pool is gorgeous and the house is spectacular. We got together for a get away and Villa Katino was the perfect spot. You will wake up every morning to the sound of holwing monkeys and wildlife with a spectacular view of the pacific ocean. Tino and his staff are amazing and so helpful. He can arrange a chef to come and cook, adventures and trips as well as recommend the best spots to eat. Mal pais is about a 10-15 min ATV ride to Santa Teresa, which is filled with great food, shops, and beaches! I wouldrecommend going to Playa Hermosa for the day to surf, lay out and have fun in the sun. The trip up to Villa Katino is a rugged one, but the most fun ride EVER. Definitely rent multiple ATV's so that everyone can get around as they please. If you choose Villa Katino you will have an epic vacation, don't miss out on this spot, it is worth every penny!

I recently traveled to Mal Pais, Costa Rica and spent 5 days at Villa Katino. The property was amazing! No pictures do justice. While I did not book the original reservation the property was clean, well maintained and had all of the amenities I could have asked for. Clean rooms, an amazing pool/hot tub, unbelievable views, WiFi for those who cant seem to stay away from work, etc. The location of the home made the adventure that much more exciting. If you are looking for a refuge from the outside world look no further. Wild animals such as howler monkeys, iguanas and exotic birds provide more than enough excitement. The owner, Tino, assisted the group in every possible way by arranging transportation to and from the airport, reserving quads for transportation while staying in Mal Pais, a day trip to Tortuga Island for snorkeling/scuba diving, a zip lining adventure, etc. Anything and everything that was asked for was provided, even a special birthday cake for a special person. I look forward to revisiting Villa Katino in the very near future and would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative. Thank you again Tino/Villa Katino!

Suficientemente largo del pueblo y playa, para tener total privacidad... pero suficientemente cerca de ellos, para aprovechar todos los servicios y la increíble playa! La vista de la casa... espectacular. Además, está en el camino hacia el parque nacional de Cabo Blanco y Montezuma... Recomendada!

We travel a lot but never had a more amazing view than in Villa Katino, swimming pool is ideal for kids with a shallow area, very friendly staff, overall a fantastic experience. We will definitely be back very soon!

Hi Tino, Villa Katino ist ein Traum. Auch wenn die Anfahrt etwas beschwerlich und gewöhnungsbedürftig ist, eröffnet sich auf Deinem Grundstück ein richtiges Paradies. Eigentlich kann man den ganzen Tag am Pool verbringen, den Morgen mit all den Tieren aus dem Urwald, den Blick auf den gigantischen Pazifik und jeden Abend einen gigantischen Sonnenuntergang geniesen. Der Service Deines Personals war Top. Wenn wir gewußt hätten, dass wir auch unsere Kleider gewaschen bekommen, hätte uns Handgepäck gereicht. Alles in allem ein toller Platz zum entspannen, allein oder gemeinsam mit Freunden. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland!
Worth the three flights to get there!!!
This was my husband and my fifth time to Costa Rica (third time to Mal Pais). After spending weeks reviewing many homes on line, we ended up going with Villa Katino and could not have made a better choice. The location is spectacular - we were completely isolated from society during the day and then ventured into Mal Pais/Santa Teresa for lunch, grocery shopping, dinner. (It's approx. a 10 minute drive from the "T" in Santa Teresa/Playa Carmen.) This is the place to go if you need to unwind/detox from consecutive 70 hour work weeks!!! The beach view is the best that we've seen in Costa Rica. (You can see all the way up the coast to Santa Teresa.) If you want to go to the beach, it is a short, 5 minute drive to the Secret Beach (ask Tino). We went to the beach one day and ended up seeing two armadillos, two troops of howler monkeys and a slew of tropical fish. There were only three other people there snorkeling - very isolated and private. However Villa Katino is remote enough, so you will see your share of howler monkeys, iguanas, etc. right on the property. Definitely bring your binoculars!!! The home is well equipped with a full kitchen. We cooked several breakfasts and lunches at the house with no problems. We also hired Soma Chefs (Matt was our chef) for two nights to cook at Villa Katino. The food was fantastic - we highly recommend bringing Matt into the home. I used the clothes washer the day before we left and it worked great! Tino has a husband/wife team that serve as caretaker/maid and they did a great job. They arrived around 9 AM, did there jobs well and then left. Enjoy the home and the surroundings. You will not be disappointed.
Bueno tiempo in Mal Pais
I really can't imagine picking a better spot for our trip to Costa Rica. Villa Katino has all the amenities and comforts you could hope for, and one of the best views you are likely to ever lay eyes on. Picture perfect sunsets every day and a beautiful view of the long and lush coastline of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. Tino was a most gracious host, with a real knack for being there when you need him and gone when you don't. All the privacy you need and then some. The location is a very fun 10 minute drive from the small, downtown of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, or about 20 minutes from Montezuma. Note that you NEED a 4wd vehicle to get around here. Wildlife abounds around the gorgeous property & we saw monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds, coati, raccoons, possums & more. As good a place as you will find in the area. Thanks again Tino!
Our Vacation at Villa Katino in Costa Rica
Villa Katino is a house that sits high on a hilltop in Mal Pais. It sits amidst jungle terrain overlooking the pacific ocean.The daytime and sunset views are so beautiful and soothing they are almost surreal. Our first 2 days there, a group of howler monkeys were visiting in the nearby trees and we were able to get a few quick glimpses of them. During our stay we also saw hummingbirds, iguanas, parrots and a kinkajou without even leaving the villa. Getting to the area of Mal Pais does take time and is not for the traveler that likes to get in and out of a place quickly. However, because the Villa Katino is off the beaten path, the sense of truly getting away from it all, fills and soothes you as soon as you arrive. The house had all the amenities of home including, wireless high-speed internet, and a large kitchen stocked in terms of cookware, utensils and dishes. We were also pleased with the daily housekeeping services, which were also included. We took several opportunities to visit Playa Carmen, a beach just 10 mins away. It was beautiful and spacious with ocean waters perfectly refreshing. Tino was a friendly and excellent host whose wanted to make sure we had everything we needed and was helpful in making reservations for us for a variety of activities (zip lining, horseback riding and surf lessons) since his spanish was better than most of ours. Tino also connected us with 2 excellent private chefs (Joy and Davin) who on 2 occassions catered delicious dinners for us. We would definitely recommend Villa Katino for unique and amazing vacation for those who crave a mix of relaxation and adventure.

Buscando un lugar donde vacionar, tener un lugar de descanso y relajación descubrimos un lugar en Mal Pais. Es una casa lujosa espaciosa, llena de confort y sobre todo su ubicacion en una colina en la costa, donde no solo tiene una vista panoramica muy hermosa, sino que se puede escuchar el oleaje con la cadencia que da la distancia. Definitivamente un lugar de ensueño, un paisaje espectacular, atardeceres llenos de color. El silencio que lo acompaña lo hace un remanso de paz incomparable. Además esta cerca de muchas playas hermosas. El trato del señor Tino es excelente y los servicios que brindan tambien! Recomendamos 100% este lugar!

Villa Katino was everything it is described to be. The view is stunning, the house luxurious, and the property taken care of beautifully! The owner helped us through every step of the process- renting, getting there, and assistance throughout our stay. He is a very friendly and trustworthy man. The housekeepers, who were provided free of charge, were awesome! I've never seen people clean so much and so well! They were also very kind and friendly. The man even chopped up some coconuts for us! The location of the house is great. It is secluded, but only a short drive to a fun town full of local restaurants, bars, shops, and beaches! We found so many hidden treasures in Mal Pais. Our group absolutely loved this place and definitely recommend it!

This place is so legit! Ultimate getaway. In the jungle. A better view then even Mel Gibson's private residence thats close by. The infinity pool is just fantastic. I really loved the openness of the place. Grab a Mango off the ground and it'll be the best you've ever tasted. Tino is super cool and had a answer to ever question we had for him. Caretaker shows up everyday and does laundry and straightens everything up and cleans. Pool guy comes with her and cleans the pool and hot tub everyday. Go to there. surf is killer as well. I'm a wedding photographer and was her shooting a wedding. Beautiful location surround by beautiful locations. I could shoot all day here!
Paradise on a Mountain-Top
Absolutely stunning views, a luxurious pool and spa, manicured landscaping a stylish interior and a spacious kitchen. For the money, you will not find a better view in a more pampered setting. The house-keeping is phenomenal, and the owner, Tino, is more than accommodating, friendly and extremely helpful. I could not have asked for a better place to stay!

We spend 4 days in this charming villa right after new years eve. The view is absolutely incredible and Tino the owner is of great support. I don't want to repeat myself but just perfect.
Fantastic Holiday Adventure - THANKS
Villa Katino is a fantastic place to spend a vacation. The views from the house are simply amazing. We enjoyed evening sunsets every night overlooking Playa Carmen. The accomodations were perfect. Tino helped us schedule horseback riding, surf lessons and ziplining in the canopy. It was quite an adventure being so close to wildlife everyday....... amazing birds, monkeys and capuchin as well as many other creatures that you would not see in the wild in the US. Thanks Tino for such a fabuous time. We can't wait to come back!!

Traumurlaub im Paradies
Ein perfekter Urlaub, einfach traumhaft. Ich verstehe jetzt warum sich Mel Gibson, Gisele Bündchen in der direkten Nachbarschaft befinden, hier kann man wirklich entspannen ohne belästigt zu werden. Serven, Quadfahren, Mountainbiken, chillen, alles geht hier. Ein perfektes Haus, genau wie beschrieben. Die Sonnenuntergänge, einzigartig. Wir kommen wieder. Auch die Betreuung und guten Tipp's des deutschen Hausherrn waren unbezahlbar.

Villa Katino was everything my family hoped to experience x ten! The layout and amenities of this incredible home maximizes every square inch for your eyes to bathe in a view unique in all of the world! Villa Katino is the nicest all-around rental property in Mal Pais. I have stayed there several times and live part-time in Mal Pais as well. I have seen most of
the rental properties on the market and believe that Villa Katino provides the best experience for almost any traveler.
Set atop the hills of Mal Pais, the house commands a 180 degree view of the ocean and valleys below. The views are simply the best on the peninsula and gave me a
feeling that is hard to qualify: some combination along the lines of divine, uplifting and pacifying. There is the immediate sense of relief and wonder as you first
ascend the driveway and are greeted by the uniquely composed vista. The infinity-edge pool with it's beach entry give the impression of being on the beach even
as you are 500 meters above it.
The entertainment area has a jacuzzi, a barbeque and couches and hammocks for lunging.
The property is ideal for all who are looking for an amazing home base from which to explore the wonders of the peninsula. The breeze is crisp at nights and the slight
elevation makes sleeping much more comfortable. The foliage is immaculately manicured all the while maintaining the sensation of being in the jungle.
Tino is a most gracious and accommodating host whose charm and concern added to our experience. I unequivocally recommend Villa Katino for an amazing vacation.

providing great social areas as well as privacy for times you just wanted to read a book and relax. I loved cooking and dinning in the villa.
All amenities were provided. I felt like I were in a 5 star home with incredible views of the ocean. The panoramic views from the villa were breathtaking.

This privately owned house is a great value for the money we paid! The grounds at the house were very well maintained and the house's interior was clean,
updated and comfortable. The pictures are great but don't really do this house justice, we got there and we're blown away.
The house is immaculate. Its unique stile provides a great contrast with the incredible, well tended garden of tropical flora that surrounds the house.
Everything inside and out is top notch. More importantly, the view is mind blowing. Whether you drinking your morning coffee, catching some afternoons in
the hammock or floating in the pool at sunset.
The house is beautiful located, and gives you the feeling that you are all alone, monkeys and all sort of wildlife coming to visit. Plenty of space, great
kitchen and nothing like sitting by the pool with a glas of wine, with monkeys napping in the trees. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Villa Katino.
We could have just stayed at the house most of the time without our excursions and had a delightful time. I could go on and on but would summarize it
by saying that this was one of our most memorable trips and our stay at Villa Katino was a very big part of it.
